The Beginning of Tax Season and Your Tax Refund
Tax season opened Monday, January 27th. The best way to get your refund the fastest is by filing electronically and going for direct deposit. Filing by paper takes longer because the IRS has to process the paperwork manually. Processing times are expected to take up to 4 weeks when returns are mailed in.
Additionally, the IRS has cautioned taxpayers to not count on getting a refund by a certain date. On the other hand, taxpayers with straight forward returns can expect their tax refund within 10-14 days of filing.
If you are wondering when you will receive your refund you can use the “Get Refund Status” tool provided by the IRS (in the link below). You will need your social security number or your individual taxpayer identification number, your filing status and your exact tax refund amount.
