In 2017, the minimum wage was increased to $11.00 per hour. Ever since then the wage has steadily increased by 50 cents every year (learn more in our previous post). This upcoming year is a bit different. Starting in January 2020, the minimum compensation an employer can pay an employee will increase by $1.50 an hour. So, the wage altogether will be $13.50 in 2020 statewide. Some places may have higher minimum wages (like Seattle) if a business meets certain requirements.

Starting in January 2020, employees will have access to Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits. Yearly, the benefits allow for up to 12 weeks of paid leave to care for yourself or your family
