I Guess Not to Fax
Soon the faxing of tax transcripts will come to an end, the IRS recently announced. This is a shame for fax lovers but the aim of the IRS is to decrease identity theft.
Other avenues for a taxpayer to obtain their tax transcript is through the mail, online or by submitting a form.
Additionally, this summer, third-parties will no longer be able to access tax transcripts via the mail. This is also an effort to reduce identity theft. For tax preparers, this is just another hurdle.
Tax preparers will still be able to access a client’s tax transcript by verification online, an e-Services account, or from the taxpayer themselves.
